Students are foreign nationals who are studying at a Canadian designed learning institute (DLI). Generally, they need a study permit to authorize them to study in Canada; some are authorized by IRPA to study without a study permit. Most foreign nationals need to apply for an initial study permit outside Canada; some are eligible to apply from within Canada.

Students must comply with the conditions specified on their study permit. Otherwise, they may be found inadmissible on the grounds of non-compliance.
